Angel Cabrera is a man who left a positive mark on the golf scene. Unfortunately, his career had to end after he had to face allegations that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend. After that, he ended up in prison. Two years later, Cabrera was convicted of assault for the second time in relation to the assault of Micaela Escudero, a former girlfriend of Cabrera.
Charlie Epps, his coach, and friend, spoke about Cabrera and his situation a few months ago.
“He says prison has done him well. And that he needed it and boy do I know that,” said Epps. “First year he was embarrassed and didn’t want any company but now this past year he’s accepted a few visits from his friends and, and they see he’s well, they see him, a guy that has learned from this…He did a couple of dumb things that he should know (not to do) and he repents – that alcoholism was such a wicked disease”.
Angel Cabrera and his goals
A few days ago, in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Charlie Epps revealed what plans Cabrera has after his release from prison. A great golfer wants to return to what he loves most and show his class once again.
It has become clear to him that he made a giant mistake, and he wants to change things for the better. It would be best for Angel to return to golf and make a success of it to change public opinion of him positively. “It’s been a rough go,” Epps said. “He was in prison in Brazil and then Argentina.
He’s weathered the storm and it’s taught him a couple of very important lessons. He’s admitted that. He’ll probably get out some time in the summer and he’s already at a halfway house. He wants to continue his golf career, the good Lord willing. I always welcome him. We’re just waiting for him to come home.”
