Ajla Tomljanovic hasn’t played a match in 2023 but she will be enjoying a new career-high ranking of No 32 when the WTA rankings list gets updated on Monday. Tomljanovic, who had knee surgery in January, is currently sitting at her career-high ranking of No 33 – the ranking she first achieved last October.
“Despite being on the injury list and not being able to play for some time, @Ajlatom has moved to a career high ranking of 32,” Craig Gabriel tweeted. Tomljanovic responded: “It always happens when you stop caring about it (face with tears of joy emoji).”

Tomljanovic had surgery after being forced to skip the Australian Open
Just two days before the Australian Open, top-ranked Australian female tennis player Tomljanovic announced she wouldn’t be able to compete at Melbourne Park.
“It absolutely pains me to have to write this message but unfortunately I won’t be able to compete at this year’s Australian Open. I’ve done absolutely everything in my power to get healthy but just ran out of time to heal and be 100 per cent ready to compete at a high level.
It’s been a very tough decision to make but I have to listen to my body,” Tomljanovic announced just two days before the start of the Australian Open. On January 18th – just a couple of days after withdrawing from the Australian Open – Tomljanovic announced knee surgery.
“Update. This morning I had a minor procedure done on my knee that went very well. Sadly I won’t be around the next few months, but I’m happy I did the necessary steps to get fully healthy. Great things take time and rehab starts very soon!
I can’t wait to get back out there. Appreciate all your sweet messages and words of support, doesn’t go unnoticed,” Tomljanovic wrote in a message posted on her Twitter. It remains to be seen when will Tomljanovic be ready to play again.
