Romanian tennis player Andreea Prisacariu said she was “disgusted” after seeing the reaction Caroline Garcia received after opening up following a heartbreaking Monterrey final loss. In recent years, numerous players have spoken about receiving threats and disgustingly insulting messages from angry bettors following a defeat.
After top-seeded Garcia suffered a 6-4 3-6 7-5 loss to third-seeded Donna Vekic in the Monterrey final, the Frenchwomen took to Instagram to reveal that her “mind was going crazy” and that she was “afraid to go to sleep.” But some weren’t that empathetic toward Garcia.
“Recently, Garcia made a statement about her anxieties and fears and to be honest, I was simply disgusted by the comments. I really do believe that most people don’t quite understand the pain we have to endure every day.
Personally, I had days where I cried myself to sleep. But that doesn’t matter, cause at the end of the day, after a lost match, there will still be threats, there will still be online bullying and why not, even worse face to face bullying, as Schwartzman had to face recently,” Prisacariu tweeted.

Prisacariu calls out the ‘disgusting’ reaction to Garcia opening up
In the third set of the Monterrey final, Garcia missed out on eight break points before Vekic broke her in the 12th game to win the final.
For Garcia, it was such a devastating loss. Presumably, Garcia also received insulting messages from angry bettors after losing the final. “Terribly tired, physically and mentally, leaving to the airport in 6h but I can’t fall asleep, I am ‘afraid’ to go to sleep.
My mind is going crazy. Every time I switch off the lights and put my head on the pillow, I can rewatch my match – that serve catching the lines on break point or that easy forehand missed or that bad choice. Tennis can drive you crazy a little bit,” Garcia wrote on her Instagram Story.
