Barbora Krejcikova says her top goal for 2023 is to be healthy as she admits she doesn’t want to miss extended time like it was the case in 2022. After a career-best season in 2021, Krejcikova was hit by an arm injury last season and she was sidelined for three months early in the season.
“Just be healthy. After what I experienced last year with everything, this year definitely the biggest goal is to stay healthy. Last year I started really well and then unfortunately, I got injured and then I wasn’t able to play for many months.
So I missed a lot of weeks of playing. This year, I don’t want to do the same mistake. I just want to take it more slowly because I know that the season is so long and I want to play well throughout the whole season and I want to stay healthy.
So I have to just manage a little better than I did last year,” Krejcikova told the WTA website.
Krejcikova wants more success
In 2021, Krejcikova captured her maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open. Now that Krejcikova is healthy again, she has set her eyes on winning more Grand Slam titles.
“I want to add some tournaments, some big tournaments. I want to try to win something again. That’s going to be the plan. But definitely, I’m not going to go crazy about it. I’ll do my best and it will click or it won’t,” Krejcikova added.
Meanwhile, Krejcikova is off to a positive start to her Australian Open campaign. In the first round, Krejcikova saw off fellow Czech Sara Bejlek in straight sets. Then, Krejcikova overcame Clara Burel, also in straight sets.
12 months ago, Krejcikova achieved her best Australian Open result, when she made the quarterfinal before losing to Madison Keys. It remains to be seen if Krejcikova can start her 2023 season with a strong Australian Open result.
