Jannik Sinner failed to dispel the Daniil Medvedev (there are 6 out of 6 defeats against the Russian on the ATP Tour – ed.) and he lost the second final in a Masters 1000 tournament in Miami. Unlike the other games played with Medvedev, the physical component unfortunately made the difference.
The feat was made even more difficult by the very tough match that Sinner started together with Carlos Alcaraz. The battle with the Spaniard, which lasted three hours of play, did not allow the blue to reach the final in the best possible conditions.
Paolo Bertolucci analyzed Sinner’s journey in Miami, focusing in particular on the challenges with Alcaraz and Medvedev.
Bertolucci: “Sinner? The battle with Alcaraz has left behind”
Bertolucci explained: “This final was already a very difficult match from the start: beating Daniil Medvedev, the player in the best shape of the last two months, probably one of the top two players in the world on hard courts, required a top-level feat.
The effects of the authentic battle sustained in the semifinal against the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, in the physique, but above all in the legs of Jannik Sinner, have unfortunately left numerous dross on ours, which the rest day was unfortunately not enough to overcome.
From the very first bars, in the middle of that hot bowl of the Miami stadium, with the high temperature and high humidity, it was understood that something was wrong in the South Tyrolean tennis. Jannik tried and gave his all in an attempt to stay close to his opponent in the first set, but as the match went on, what little petrol there was in his tank ran out.
For this reason, in the second set, the difference between the two was even more evident. The Italian therefore lost once again in the final in Miami, however at the end of an exciting tournament, during which he clearly demonstrated that he is now part of the elite of this sport and that, together with Medvedev, he composes Novak Djokovic, Alcaraz and the probably returning Rafael Nadal, the quintet destined to excel in this 2023.”
