2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu has revealed her purpose as the Canadian tennis star wants to “use tennis as a platform to inspire others.” Andreescu, 22, became a Grand Slam champion at a very young age but then missed the entire 2020 season.
Even though the last two seasons weren’t great for Andreescu result-wise, she is still considered among the most talented players in the game. In recent times, Andreescu has also become an advocate for athletes’ good mental health.
“My purpose is to use tennis as a platform to help inspire others. And basically that’s using my tennis results, and my tennis base, to hopefully, even during my career, create my own foundation, or do something more than tennis.
I want to be known as someone who’s obviously hard-working, who’s very fun and heart-warming to other people. Very spiritually intact, who knows herself and who knows what she wants. And who’s an incredible tennis player but also just human being;” Andreescu told th Australian Open website.
Andreescu wants to return to the top of women’s tennis
Andreescu, a former world No 4, is now ranked at No 45 in the world. Ahead of the 2023 season, Andreescu admitted her goal is to return to the top-10. “I definitely don’t like seeing myself in the Top 50.
I definitely want to get back to that Top 10 spot. But I know that this year I’ve lost to good players, and they’ve been pretty close. I wouldn’t say that I got swept off the court. Having that experience this year compared to last year against all these top players, I think it’s a totally different thing,” Andreescu said.
After missing the start of the 2022 season to address her mental health, Andreescu kicked off her season in mid-April. Andreescu’s best result of the year came during the grass season, when she made the Bad Homburg final before losing to Caroline Garcia. It remains to be seen if Andreescu can start her 2023 season with a strong Australian Open result.
