Naomi Osaka reveals she is aiming to win at least eight more Grand Slam titles before she retires. Osaka, 25, is a four-time Grand Slam champion. This year, Osaka is missing the entire season due to pregnancy. Osaka’s baby is due in June or July as the Japanese is aiming to be ready for the 2024 Australian Open.
During an interview with a Japanese sports journalist, Osaka was asked how many more Grand Slam titles she would like to win. “Eight,” Osaka quickly replied. Also, Osaka is aiming to win the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“I want to try to win the Olympics next year,” Osaka revealed, per Sportskeeda.
Osaka looking forward to returning to action
After opening up about her battle with depression and anxiety during the 2021 French Open, Osaka appeared in just three more tournaments in the rest of the 2021 season.
Last year, Osaka didn’t play much either as she appeared in just 11 tournaments. The break is seemingly impacting Osaka very well as the Japanese is very motivated and excited about her return to tennis in 2024. “It makes me very excited to return to the sport.
It’s something that’s going to make me very happy,” Osaka noted. Osaka started the 2021 season by winning her fourth Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. At the time, no one could have predicted that would be Osaka’s last title in the next two years.
“I’ve been able to do so much. I just feel like I have to give myself more credit than I normally want to. I don’t pat myself on the back and I think that’s what people need to start doing to themselves more,” Osaka said. Osaka, who will be turning 26 in October, is still very young.
Osaka is undoubtedly one of the most talented players on the WTA Tour and she could definitely make a successful comeback after pregnancy.
