After the defeat in the third round of the Australian Open 2023 suffered at the hands of Lehecka, Cameron Norrie’s season will start again from the Argentina Open, a 250 category tournament staged in Buenos Aire, where he is the second seed.

The number 12 in the world will take to the court on a surface, the clay-court, which is certainly not one of his favourites. Norrie knows this well, but despite this, the Johannesburg-born player has every intention of becoming a complete tennis player, thus also improving on clay.

He analyzed: “I’m still trying to improve my tennis, my game on clay. I try to work as much as possible. I want to keep doing more and improve my ranking and my game. I feel more mature on the Tour. The last time I played here it was in qualifying and I had almost no experience.”

Cameron Norrie: “I’ll have to be patient in clay courts”

Cameron Norrie has revealed all his difficulty in adapting to the surface of the playing court but also to the South American climate.

At the same time, however, also his tenacity in wanting to try to introduce new improvements in his game, so as to make the experience on clay more prolific. He told: “It was very difficult to adjust. I played Bogota last week to get to Buenos Aires first.

I knew it was going to be difficult, I was there a couple of years ago. I have to be very careful and make sure I’m prepared. I’m getting more and more used to the climate. I couldn’t wait to go back to Buenos Aires. Since I played Davis Cup on clay, it made sense to continue playing on this surface.

I feel better every day. I will have to play my best to have a chance to win. It usually takes me longer to find the optimal rhythm on clay, so I have to be patient with myself and keep the basics of my tennis. What I like most about Argentines is their passion.

They love tennis and sports in general. I like to see the passion of the fans. Being in Buenos Aires is a special feeling.”
