Top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz will have a first-round bye in Buenos Aires before officially kicking off his 2023 season. In his Buenos Aires debut, Alcaraz will face the winner of the match between 2019 Monte Carlo Masters champion Fabio Fognini , and two-time ATP champion Laslo Djere.
In the quarterfinals, Alcaraz could very possibly meet Sebastián Báez, who reached the final in Córdoba this past week. If Alcaraz beats his first two opponents, he would likely face No.4 seed Diego Schwartzman or fifth seed Francisco Cerúndolo in the quarterfinals.
If Alcaraz makes it to the final, he could face Cameron Norrie or Lorenzo Musetti. In his pre-tournament press conference, Alcaraz stressed that winning is always on his mind. However, Alcaraz admitted that it may take him some time to start playing his best tennis.
“It will be my first tournament since I got injured in Paris. Four months have passed since then. But I always arrive thinking about winning and wanting to win, although it won’t be easy after so long without competing,” Alcaraz said, according to the ATP website.
The 2022 season was better than Alcaraz could have imagined. Last year, Alcaraz was proclaimed champion of a Grand Slam and reached number 1 in the world for the first time in his career. “It was a very good year. I achieved my dream, my goal, very quickly.

Alcaraz wants to shine
Questioned by the Argentine daily La Nacion, Carlos Alcaraz has not changed his elements of language. As he affirms with force, he is not afraid of anyone and this is somewhere what constitutes his main mental quality.
