Casper Ruud was thrilled about his Estoril victory as the Norwegian tennis star admitted it felt “great” to finally win again an ATP title. Ruud, 24, defeated Miomir Kecmanovic 6-2 7-6 (3) in the Estoril final to win his 10th ATP title.
For Ruud, it was his first ATP title since winning it all in Gstaad last July. Prior to coming to Estoril, Ruud was just 5-6 in 2023 as he was struggling a lot with his form and results. “I feel great. It’s my first time in Estoril and first time lucky, I guess.
To be here with the trophy this Sunday is very special. It’s been quite some months since I won my last title, so it’s very important,” Ruud said, per the ATP website.
Ruud enjoyed his time in Estoril
Ruud was playing in Estoril for the first time and it was quite a debut for the Norwegian.
After winning Estoril, Ruud gave credit to the outstanding Estoril crowd. “I felt great. All my stay was great [with the] fans, great stadium, great atmosphere on this court. It was full every time that I was on the court it was a full stadium so thank you to everyone who is here today and also during the week,” Ruud said.
On the other side, 23-year-old Kecmanovic fell short of winning his second title. But after losing the Estoril final, Kecmanovic was all class as he praised Ruud’s performance. “You were too good today. Good job this week and good luck for the rest of the year.
Thank you to everybody who came out. It was my first time here. I really enjoyed playing in front of you guys and I really hope I can come back next time,” Kecmanovic said on-court. Now, Ruud and Kecmanovic will head to the Monte Carlo Masters. It remains to be seen if Ruud can also potentially win back-to-back titles in Monte Carlo.
