Former 18-time Grand Slam champion Chris Evert agrees with Novak Djokovic that he is not arrogant or pretentious when he takes to the court believing he is the best. In an interview with The National, Djokovic underlined that he treats every opponent with respect but noted that when he is healthy and ready, he always believes he is the better player on the court.
Evert, who is also one of the greatest champions in tennis history, used the word “positive” to describe Djokovic’s mentality. “Nope. It’s a positive, confident mindset and that’s why you’re the best!” Evert tweeted.

In early February, LeBron James became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
Just before setting the new all-time scoring record, James said: “I feel like I’m the best basketball player that ever played the game. That’s just my confidence.” Reem Abulleil of The National asked Djokovic if he could relate to James’ mentality.
“Yes, I can relate to that because I believe that what worked for me and still works for me is that self-belief and confidence level. Of course always balanced with the respect towards the opponent, towards the game, appreciation for the moment and for what you’re going through.
But just self-belief that, hey, I know that when I’m ready, when I’m there out on the court, on any surface, against anybody, I’m better, I’m the best. And I don’t think there’s anything arrogant or pretentious about it.
I don’t see anything wrong in that. And I congratulate LeBron for his historic achievement, he absolutely deserves it because at this age, he works as hard as anybody really out there. And that’s a great role model and a great example to all the young guys,” Djokovic told The National.
Just like James, Djokovic is also always striving for greatness and will one day be remembered as one of the greatest athletes in all sports history.
