David Goffin has announced that due to a knee injury he will be missing the upcoming Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami. Goffin, 32, competed at an ATP 250 event in Marseille last week, where he won his first-round match before giving a walkover to Mikael Ymer in their round-of-16.
After pulling out of his Marseille match against Ymer, Goffin also withdrew from the Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami. Goffin is hoping to be able to return at the start of the clay season. “Unfortunately my knee will push me away from the courts for few weeks.
I will work hard to come back at my best asap on the clay,” Goffin announced.
Will Goffin defend his Marrakech title?
Last year, Goffin captured his lone title of the 2022 season on the clay courts of Marrakech.
This year, the Marrakech event is kicking off on April 3rd. Goffin is certainly hoping to be ready to play again in early April and kick off his season in Marrakech. “I’m very happy, proud of my week. It was not easy, a lot of tough matches.
But at the end, I have my sixth title, here in Marrakech. It gives me a lot of happiness and confidence for the season on the clay,” Goffin said after winning Marrakech last year. Meanwhile, Goffin has had a solid but also rough start to 2023.
After kicking off his 2023 season at the United Cup, Goffin went to Auckland, where he made the quarterfinal. Goffin did well in Auckland but then was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open due to a viral illness. In late January, Goffin returned to action at the Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve Challenger in Belgium, where he won the title.
Since winning Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, Goffin hasn’t had it easy and he is again missing some time due to injury problems. It remains to be seen if Goffin will be able to return to action at the start of the clay season.
