Emma Raducanu is now expected to return to action on March 7th, when she will team up with Cameron Norrie for mixed doubles at the Eisenhower Cup. Raducanu, 20, was scheduled to play at this week’s WTA 250 event in Austin.
Unfortunately, Raducanu was hit by tonsilitis and she won’t be playing her first tournament since the Australian Open in Austin. “I’m sorry to have to withdraw from the ATX Open. I am currently suffering from tonsillitis and am unable to compete this week.
Thank you to the tournament for the great hospitality here in Austin,” Raducanu said in a statement.
Raducanu will return to action in Indian Wells
On March 7th, the 2023 Eisenhower Cup edition will be taking place in Indian Wells.
For this year’s Eisenhower Cup edition, the organizers decided to organize a mixed doubles tournament. Raducanu, who is now the face of British women’s tennis, will team up with top-ranked British male tennis player Norrie.
The Eisenhower Cup is set to feature star-studded mixed doubles teams and here is the list of teams: Iga Swiatek/Hubert Hurkacz, Maria Sakkari/Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jessica Pegula/Tommy Paul, Leylah Fernandez/Felix Auger-Aliassime, Aryna Sabalenka/Taylor Fritz.
“We are thrilled that The Eisenhower Cup will return for a fourth time to serve as a meaningful charitable event to ring in two weeks of exciting action in Tennis Paradise. Tennis fans will be treated to the brightest stars of both tours pairing up for a fun and unique mixed doubles event, and we extend our sincerest thank you to all players for their participation in supporting this great cause,” Indian Wells tournament director Tommy Haas announced in mid-February.
After competing at the Eisenhower Cup, Raducanu will also compete at a WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells. Raducanu, who didn’t make the main draw cut for Indian Wells, was given a main draw wildcard for the tournament. Raducanu will be making her third Indian Wells appearance this March.
