Felix Auger-Aliassime is the first player confirmed for the 2023 Laver Cup edition scheduled to take place in Vancouver between September 22-24. Auger-Aliassime, 22, will be making his third Laver Cup appearance this year.
After making his Laver Cup debut in 2021, Canadian tennis star Auger-Aliassime helped Team World clinch their first-ever win over Team Europe at the 2022 Laver Cup in London. “I’m really looking forward to being part of the Laver Cup again, we had an amazing time in London last year.
We were able to get the win in London, but that was not easy. It will make a real difference to have the crowd behind us and I really hope fans come out in big numbers to witness Laver Cup firsthand,” Auger-Aliassime said, per the Laver Cup website.
Auger-Aliassime went on a stunning run after the Laver Cup
A few of weeks after beating Novak Djokovic at the Laver Cup and helping Team World beat Team Europe, Auger-Aliassime won three consecutive titles – Florence, Antwerp, Basel.
Also, Auger-Aliassime made the Paris Masters semifinal and debuted at the ATP Finals. “The Laver Cup was a real confidence booster. I felt really good about my game at that point and had a whole streak of tournaments afterwards indoors in similar conditions where I felt I could win a lot of matches,” Auger-Aliassime said.
John McEnroe, who is the team captain of Team World, is happy to have Auger-Aliassime for a third consecutive year. “The Laver Cup is one of the best things to happen in tennis in the last 20 years. It’s had a huge impact on the sport, and has been a great success.
We have some great players coming through on the World side, starting with Felix, who helped us get the win in London. He had a huge season last year and went on a winning streak after the Laver Cup. It’s great to have him back,” McEnroe said of Auger-Aliassime signing up to represent Team World.
