Last week, Djordje Djokovic revealed that the Djokovic team submitted the necessary documentation and applied for special permission to enter the United States. Recently, it has been reported that these vaccine rules will end in May, allowing Djokovic to compete at the US Open without issue.
“As a tennis fan, I want him here. As someone who looks at the world realistically, I don’t know how they let him in and they don’t let everyone in then. That doesn’t make sense,” Annacone said on Tennis Channel, as quoted by Tennis365.
Amritraj also noted that he wants Djokovic in the world’s biggest tournaments, but added that this could be a delicate situation. “At that point it becomes a delicate situation. You know, if you excuse the great tennis player, then a lot of the family members and others that have been trying to get in, it’s a delicate situation, where do you make that decision? But many other countries have eased these restrictions and it looks set to be lifted in May.
So should they be here now? If you look at it from a tennis point of view, he has established himself as the best tennis player in the world. So, for all of us, it’s a great shame not to have him at two of the biggest events we have,” Amritraj said.
