John Isner has left the top-50 for the first time since 2009, dropping out from the exclusive group after 686 weeks! Thus, Isner left Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic as the oldest players on that list ahead of Marin Cilic.
Isner scored 23 victories in 2022, enough to remain in the top-50 for another season. However, he has won only four matches in 2023, struggling to find the form and dropping out from the top-50 for the first time in 13 and a half years!
After four tremendous years at the University of Georgia, Isner was ready to chase pro success thanks to his booming serve and firing forehand. John played the first ATP final in Washington in the summer of 2007, just a week after conquering Lexington Challenger.
The Greensboro native gained over 500 places on the ATP list in 14 days and cracked the top-100 in February 2008.

Isner barely stayed there in the first half of 2011, improving his results in Newport, Atlanta and Washington and extending his streak for 12 more years. John kicked off the previous season inside the top-25 but could not follow his usual pace and stay inside the top-30.
He lacked notable results and struggled with injuries to embrace a 23-17 score and play only one tournament after the US Open. Isner has won four matches in 2023, reaching the Dallas Open final and embracing a memorable battle with Yibing Wu.
The Chinese fended off four match points in a 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 victory, preventing Isner’s first ATP title since Atlanta 2021. John has lost five straight matches to end his top-50 run after almost 700 weeks, failing in the first round in Houston last week and leaving the mentioned group.
