Maxime Cressy is setting very high goals for himself as he reveals his main goal is “to be No 1 and dominate the Tour.” Cressy, who will be turning 26 in May, is a three-time ATP finalist and he has one title in his collection.
When it comes to the Grand Slam stage, Cressy’s best result came at the 2022 Australian Open – when he made the round-of-16. Cressy, who is currently ranked at No 54 in the world, achieved a career-high ranking of No 31 last August.
“My main goal is to be No. 1 and dominate the Tour. I don’t put any limits on myself and I haven’t until now. That’s why I got to this level, and I believe that this mindset is going to carry me to a lot more success. I can just visualise who I want to be and when.
I have huge faith in that goal-setting. I’ve been doing it every single year for the past four, five years, and most of my goals have been coming true,” Cressy told the ATP Tour website.
Cressy enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2022
At the start of the 2022 season, Cressy was ranked just outside the top-100 in the world.
Then in his first very first tournament of the 2022 season, Cressy made his first ATP final at the Melbourne Summer Set. In the final, Cressy competed well but in the end lost to Rafael Nadal. Still, it was a great week for Cressy, who entered the top-100 for the first time after the Melbourne final.
During the grass season, Cressy made two more ATP finals – the American was beaten in the Eastbourne final but he defeated Alexander Bublik in the Newport final for his first ATP title. At the start of the 2023 season, Cressy is just 1-2.
Cressy suffered a first-round defeat in Adelaide, before losing to Holger Rune in the Australian Open second round. It remains to be seen if Cressy can improve his form and make some notable results in 2023.
