Naomi Osaka has revealed she and her boyfriend Cordae are leaning toward naming their baby “something more unique than traditional.” Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, and rapper Cordae are set to welcome their first baby this year.
“We have been discussing names. I would say that we are going for something more unique than traditional,” Osaka told PEOPLE. Osaka, 25, has many years left in pro tennis as she is looking forward to having her kid one day in the stands watching her matches.
“I can’t wait to have my kid in the stands at tournaments. I feel like having them there watching will be extra motivation,” Osaka revealed.
When is Osaka’s baby due?
During an interview with a Japanese sports journalist, Osaka revealed her baby is due in June or July.
“The baby is due in June or July, so I have August, September, October, November and December. I have almost six months,” Osaka said. After winning her fourth Grand Slam title at the 2021 Australian Open, Osaka didn’t enjoy much success in the rest of the 2021 season.
Last year wasn’t that great either as Osaka appeared in just 11 tournaments and didn’t win any titles. But Osaka is benefiting from a tennis break as she indicates she will look much better when she returns. “I’m definitely going to perform well and be a better player than I have been last year.
For me, my results just made me want to try harder and be the best that I can be. I’ll be competing in Australia next year,” Osaka said. When asked how many more Grand Slams she would like to win before retiring, Osaka replied: “Eight.” Also, Osaka hopes to win the gold medal for Japan at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“I want to try to win the Olympics next year,” Osaka revealed. Osaka is expected to return at the start of the 2024 season.
