Nick Kyrgios is back on the practice court and he is warning his rivals that he is getting ready to “snip people soon.” Kyrgios, 27, was planning to kick off his 2023 season at the United Cup and he was also hoping to land his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
But the meniscus tear that Kyrgios sustained during the offseason led to a cyst growing inside his knee. After consulting with the doctors, Kyrgios made the call to skip the Australian Open and have knee surgery. On his Instagram Story, Kyrgios posted a video of him practicing on a hard court.
“I feel like coming back and snipping people soon,” Kyrgios captioned his Instagram Story.
Kyrgios’ surgery was a success
In February, Kyrgios’ manager Daniel Horsfall said “we could not have asked for a better result.” “The surgery went great, to be honest, we couldn’t have asked for a better result.
We’re all pretty pleased, the team is ready to go, when he’s ready, we’re ready. He’s in a knee brace at the moment, he only has movement up to about 70 degrees. We have a post-op appointment today to test where it’s at, but we’ve been talking to the surgeon most days and also the physio.
They’re really, really pleased, he might be recovering faster than what we were expecting so it’s good news,” Horsfall told SEN Breakfast. While it was disappointing for Kyrgios to miss the Australian Open, there were some positives to it – when Kyrgios returns to action, he will return with a 100% healthy knee.
“It is disappointing that he’s had this surgery but it means two things, he’s had his knee cleaned up and is going to be back better than ever. But also, we have this time to get him fitter and stronger than he was this time last year.
It’s all green lights,” Horsfall added. Last year, Kyrgios said he would compete at the 2023 French Open so he could take his girlfriend to Paris. It remains to be seen when will exactly Kyrgios return to action.
