Rory McIlroy crashed out of the 2023 Masters after missing the cut on Day 2. The Northern Irishman shot the second round of 5-over to miss the cutline. There was hope that Rory would be able to repeat last year’s success and even win the Masters this year, but he did not appear to show the kind of game he was expected to exhibit.
Neil Schuster talked about Rory’s early exit in the No Laying Up podcast, and expressed his disappointment with everything that happened. “Rory didn’t show up. I thought yesterday’s round Rory dug it out a little bit and was able to keep it at even and in year’s past he would have given up, and I felt like today that’s exactly what he did.”
Neil Schuster: “It was fu**ing awful, it’s not good”
McIlroy tried to do his best, but it was not enough.
“The par putt on 16, I went back and watched the replay … it was fuc*ing awful. It was just not good golf today. Yesterday, I felt he was battling, and today, I felt he kind of waved the white flag and I hate that. Rory’s round kind of looked like those trees coming down today, I mean there was no stopping the fall today.
Yesterday he was able to arrest the fall and today it got out of hand early and it didn’t stop.” Tron Carter has seen many flaws in the Northern Irishman’s game, which is why he is angry. “It sucks. There was a complete lack of pride,“- host Tron Carter said.
“At some point, after the front nine, it’s like, ‘I’m going to buckle down, go two or three under on the back and try make the cut. And he didn’t do that at all. He kinda just packed up his shit and left.”
