Coach Paul Annacone was heartbroken after seeing Bianca Andreescu suffer a horrifying injury as he thought that was “one of the things that you just don’t why.” In the Miami round-of-16 against Ekaterina Alexandrova, Andreescu went down with what looked like a pretty horrifying leg or ankle injury.
Andreescu yelled “not again” and “this is the worst pain I have ever felt.” After receiving treatment from the medical staff, Andreescu was assisted into a wheelchair and left the court with tears. “Just heartbreaking. We’ve seen the level of play that she has shown us in the past, what a great player.
You talk about the injury bug, just hasn’t been able to stay healthy, and now she’s finally getting back on the court, consistently playing at the highest levels of the game. These are one of the things that you just don’t know why.
We send her great thoughts and hope that it’s a quick recovery. We want her back on the courts, we want her happy and healthy, and, it’s just a tough thing to see,” Annacone said on Tennis Channel, per Sportskeeda.
Andreescu suffered a pretty unfortunate injury
Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion, was doing extremely well in Miami before her campaign ended in the worst possible way.
Just after her Miami third-round win, Andreescu spoke about how good she was feeling about her game. “Last time I played here in 2021, I did not enjoy myself. I did not feel that I deserved to be in that final. But this year, I feel like a totally different person & I definitely feel like I deserve to be here right now,” Andreescu said after beating Sofia Kenin in the Miami third round.
In the last couple of weeks, Andreescu was pretty open and honest about her goals. Andreescu felt her game was trending in a positive direction and her goal was to soon again win a Grand Slam or a WTA 1000 title.
