It has been more than six months since LIV Golf Investments applied for recognition to the OWGR for the purposes of awarding points for its tournaments. Season 1 LIV ended without an official response.
Lig Golf, results
Pending the proceedings, the League led by Greg Norman has tried to get around the problem, making an agreement with the MENA Tour.
But the attempt was neutralized by the OWGR executives, who in the meantime implemented a series of changes to the criteria governing the Ranking. The “new” OWGR has garnered criticism from players, and not just any character.
Jon Rahm: “Ridiculous.” Tiger Woods: “Imperfect.” Padraig Harrington (latest in chronological order): “A point has been missed” What will all this lead to? Upon acceptance of the LIV request? For a further revision of the points award criteria? At the moment, the only certain results related to this situation are these: Phil Mickelson, from 33rd to 182nd place in the World Ranking.
Dustin Johnson, from third to 38th place. Bryson DeChambeau, from fifth to 58th place. Patrick Reed, from 25th to 66th place. Lee Westwood, from 37th to 140th place. Sergio Garcia, from 45th to 103rd place. Brooks Koepka, from 16th to 48th place.
Ian James Poulter, from 54th to 135th place. And the big problem is that to date there are no signs that this descent is over. LIV Golf, also known as Super Golf League, is a professional golf tour. It was established in 2022 with the support of the Public Investment Fund (the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia).
The Golf Tour competes with the PGA Tour (USA) and the DP World Tour (Europe) and offers significantly higher prize money. The name LIV refers to the total number of holes to be played on each tournament (54 in Roman numerals, representing 3 rounds of 18 holes), as opposed to the usual 72 holes (4 rounds of 18 holes) on other tours .
Alternatively, 54 is the score obtained for scoring a birdie on every hole on a par 72 hole. In March 2022, LIV Golf CEO, former professional golfer and former world number one Greg Norman, announced the schedule for the first season of the LIV Golf Invitational Series.
This consists of eight tournaments played over 54 golf courses without a cut. Each tournament consists of a field of 48 players, who are sorted into 12 teams of four players each. The total prize money amounts to 255 million dollars.
