Nadal suffered a hip injury in Australia
Nadal last played at the Australian Open, where he was severely impacted by a hip injury during a second-round loss against Mackenzie McDonald.
The day after his Australian Open exit, Nadal revealed that the tests determined the extent of his hip injury. Initially, it was said that Nadal would be out for at least six to eight weeks. Unfortunately, Nadal didn’t manage to recover in time for the Sunshine Double.
In Indian Wells, Nadal is a three-time champion. Last year, Nadal ended runner-up to Taylor Fritz in the Indian Wells final. After Nadal pulled out of the upcoming Indian Wells edition, tournament director Tommy Haas wished the Spaniard a quick recovery.
“We wish Rafa continued healing, and hope to see him back at the BNP Paribas Open next year,” Indian Wells tournament director Haas said. Nadal withdrawing from Indian Wells and Miami means that his goal is to be fully healthy and ready come the clay season time. Nadal will likely return to action at the Monte Carlo Masters, which starts on April 9th.
