Roger Federer took a picture with Rafael Nadal’s father and sister Maria Isabel Nadal after his retirement match at Laver Cup. Nadal’s sister posted the picture on her Instagram account.
Maria Isabel was near Rafael Nadal when the Spaniard won at Roland Garros in 2022.
At Wimbledon, Nadal’s father and sister irritated Rafa for telling him to retire.
“My sister and father were telling me to retire. For me, it’s tough to quit in the middle of a match, even though I was thinking about that for a long time. I have done that a couple of times in my career, but I hate doing that.
That’s why I kept fighting, wanting to finish the match regardless of the result,” Rafael Nadal said. Related: Rafael Nadal: ‘My sister and father told me to retire, but I hate that’
Rafael Nadal already headed back home
Rafael Nadal left London on Saturday morning for Mallorca, as planned.
Rafa and his wife are expecting their first child in the coming weeks, and he wants to get back home and help Xisca with everything. Despite not feeling his best physically, Nadal attended two days at the Laver Cup in London to honor his great opponent Roger Federer.
Rafa still suffers from an abdominal injury sustained at Wimbledon, as he confessed on Friday night, complicating matters after competing at the US Open. “I’m not okay, and I have had a couple of challenging weeks.
It was stressful, and I could not sleep for more than a few hours. I had to deal with a complicated situation at home, and it’s a different pressure from what you feel on the court. Luckily, everything is fine now, and we are much calmer.
That’s why I could travel to London, which was very important for me,” Rafael Nadal said.
