When Bergamo calls, Brescia answers. Success for “Golf in Piazza” in the Lioness of Italy: Piazza della Vittoria hosted about two thousand people exactly 180 days before the start of the Ryder Cup of golf in Rome. Brescia responded enthusiastically to the Federgolf initiative.
Ryder Cup, sunday
Many children colored the event with smiles and enthusiasm, including free golf trials and photos with the Ryder Cup trophy that arrived directly from England for the occasion. There was also a representation of Brescia clubs, starting with Gardagolf, continuing with Franciacorta, Chervò San Vigilio and Bogliaco Golf Club to illustrate the golf offer of the area between sport and tourism.
Summing up the weekend in Lombardy is Gian Paolo Montali, general manager of the Ryder Cup project. “It was an extraordinary two days in Lombardy, the beating heart of Italian golf. The #roadtorome appointments of recent years have been fundamental and have brought many families closer to golf.
Now we are preparing to welcome important tournaments. First the Italian Open for disabled people at the Royal Park I Roveri in Piedmont. Then, from 4 to 7 May, the Italian Open at Marco Simone on the Ryder court. Then, the Ryder Cup that we have been waiting for for eight years now.
We’ll be ready.” Marta Maestroni, general secretary of Federgolf, underlines the fundamental role of president Chimenti. “He strongly wanted these initiatives. Golf is becoming a sport for everyone and the response towards the Ryder Cup in Rome is really encouraging”.
The countdown therefore marks -180 days to the challenge between Team Europe and Team USA, the third sporting event in the world, which will see 300,000 spectators arrive in Italy in the space of a week. An important driving force also for tourism and for Rome’s candidacy to host the universal exposition of 2030.
The Ryder Cup, officially known as The Ryder Cup Matches, is a golf tournament held every two years, starting from 1927 (with the exception of some editions [Note 1]), between a selection of US players and one of Europeans.
