Serena Williams is a sports icon, loved and revered by brands, such as the Lincoln car brand, of which the former US star is the testimonial. 23 times Slam champion said goodbye to the tennis world at the US Open. The American legend stopped in the third round of the last Grand Slam of the year losing in three sets against one of the best versions of Ajla Tomljanovic.
In an interview with actor Bradley Cooper, Serena Williams returned to talk about her farewell. She said: “Even though it’s something I never thought about. I was just a girl trying to play tennis. It’s been an incredible week, it’s like all the people want to push me further.
I’ve been building up, finding the my game, I should have started playing a little earlier this year. I don’t think I’ll go back but you never know. I just needed to stop. I always said I wanted to stop when I was playing really good tennis and by winning and beating good players.
For me, it’s really about the things I want to do spiritually and spend time with my daughter and family. As a super pragmatic mom, I can tell you how hard it was. I lost a lot of matches after having Olympia, because it became really difficult to be on the court.
I feel like I’ve given so much of my life to tennis, my entire life, that it’s time to do something different for me and focus on something else. I think if I want to come back, I certainly will.”
