Serena Williams revealed she “was not happy at all” after ending on the losing side against Ajla Tomljanovic in the US Open third round. Williams, who was playing the final tournament of her career at the US Open, suffered a 7-5 6-7 (4) 6-1 loss to Tomljanovic in the third round.
A round earlier, Williams defeated Anett Kontaveit – who at the time was the second-ranked player in the world. “I was actually not very happy at all. Just because of the result. I was there to keep going and to keep winning.
And yeah, it was more or less like, ‘I can’t believe I let that match go’ more than anything, you know. Obviously, it was a great moment and a great memory and I’ve never felt – I don’t feel like I’ve left anything, but I just felt like, ‘What could I have done better that day?’” Williams told Gayle King on CBS Mornings, per Sportskeeda.
Williams not thinking about returning to tennis
Williams, who is now 41, was also asked by Gayle on CBS Mornings if there was any chance of seeing her again in pro tennis. Right now, Williams has no intention to return to pro tennis.
“It’s hard to say. I would say no. For now, no. I’ve literally given my whole life to tennis, and it’s time for me to give my life to something else,” Williams said. Williams’ father, Richard, has tried to persuade the former 23-time Grand Slam champion.
But Williams wants to focus on some other things in life. “He’s like, ‘Serena you should play two more Grand Slams.’ I’m like, ‘Dad, stop,'” Williams revealed. In the same interview, Williams revealed that she and her husband are “working on” giving Olympia a sibling. In 2017, Williams became a mother after she and her husband welcomed Olympia.
