
World No 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas is excited about playing competing at the Diriyah Tennis Cup as he reveals visiting Saudi Arabia has been on his bucket list for some time. Tsitsipas, 24, signed up to compete at the Diriyah Tennis Cup in Riyadh ahead of the 2023 season.
Between 08-10 December, the second edition of the Diriyah Tennis Cup will be taking place. Tsitsipas is just one of the big names that will be in Riyadh as Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Nick Kyrgios, Andrey Rublev, Taylor Fritz, Stan Wawrinka, Cameron Norrie and Dominic Thiem are also expected to play.
“It was on my bucket list to visit Saudi Arabia for travel and I’m happy they are introducing a tournament like the Diriyah Tennis Cup in the heart of Saudi Arabia, so I can also play tennis there. Having good players and opponents around me is the perfect preparation for the upcoming season,” Tsitsipas said, per the tournament’s press release.
Tsitsipas to prepare in Saudi Arabia for the 2023 season
The Diriyah Tennis Cup is set to feature a star-studded player and will provide Tsitsipas a perfect preparation for the 2023 Australian Open. After a inaugural Diriyah Tennis Cup edition in 2019, the tournament organizers are hoping to have a big second edition.
“As the host of international tennis stars, the Kingdom continues to show its excellence in hosting international sports events, which has made it home to various sports, including this event – in which international stars will participate – that we are happy to organize.
The 2019 Diriyah Tennis Cup achieved great success which attracted thousands of fans from the Kingdom and abroad, and in this edition, we look forward to continuing these accomplishments and watching great competitive games in historic Diriyah, in the presence of fans of tennis, a sport that is highly popular in the Kingdom,” Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, sports minister and chair of the Diriyah Season Committee said It remains to be seen if Tsitsipas can win the Diriyah Tennis Cup and boost his confidence ahead of the 2023 season.
