Taylor Fritz, 25, thinks he at least deserved to be nominated for the Most Improved Player of the Year award. Fritz enjoyed his career-best season in 2022 as this year he became a Masters champion after stunning Rafael Nadal in the Indian Wells final.
In the summer, Fritz made his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon before debuting at the ATP Finals last month. Also, Fritz broke into the top-10 for the first time this year as he is now ranked at No 9 in the world.
Fritz definitely elevated his game to another level this year, but he hasn’t been nominated for the most improved player award. Instead, Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune, Jack Draper and Maxime Cressy received nominations.

Fritz: I proved I belong in the top-10
In his ATP Finals debut, Fritz enjoyed a good campaign as he made the semifinal before Novak Djokovic handed him a tight 7-6 (5) 7-6 (6) loss.
After exiting the ATP Finals, Fritz felt he proved that him being a top-10 player wasn’t a coincidence. “I think that I’ve proved that I belong in the top 10. I just need to keep working hard. Fortunately for me, I think there’s a lot of positives to take out of this year.
I finished where I did and I missed pretty much the whole clay court season, didn’t have any training going into the beginning of the hard court season. I was dealing with injuries, and I still was able to produce a really solid year.
I’m just excited to kind of get back to work, keep improving, next year look to cement my spot even more,” Fritz reflected. Fritz is returning to action next week as he is competing at the Diriyah Tennis Cup in Saudi Arabia.
