Tennis and K-pop worlds merge thanks to Roger Federer and the band Blackpink. This happened on Roger Federer’s Instagram, when he posted a picture of him with K-pop stars Blackpink in Paris. Blackpink, made up of four members, Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé, is one of the biggest bands in the world, boasting more YouTube subscribers than any other musical artist and an army of fans known as Blinks.
The Swiss Maestro, shared this pic on his Instagram, wrote: “My kids said this was a definitive IG post!” And the post have surpassed well over a million! “Blink????” Current world No. 7 Coco Gauff commented on Federer’s photo while Denis Shapovalov, who reached the third round at the 2023 Australian Open, commented: “Hahaha yessss!”
Federer will not come back on the ATP Tour
A few months before his retirement from tennis, Roger Federer was still very confident that he could return to the court.
In the summer of last year, the Swiss realized that his knee was not responding in the best way during training sessions and made the decision to retire. The announcement took place on Instagram on September 15, 2022 and caused a wave of reactions in every corner of the world.
The former ATP number 1 has had a truly gigantic impact on the sport, contributing more than any other to the spread of tennis and bringing in a myriad of sponsors. The 20-time Grand Slam champion said goodbye to tennis played at the Laver Cup, the exhibition he founded himself in 2017.
The 41-year-old from Basel played a final doubles match alongside his arch-rival Rafael Nadal at London’s O2 Arena, before receiving a truly moving tribute. Although Roger is now enjoying life away from the Tour, there are still many who are hoping for his return to the field.
In a brief interview with CNBC, Federer reiterated that he will not return to play on the ATP tour. He told: “I’ve never been a big fan of comebacks. When I made the decision to retire, I thought it over and knew I wasn’t going back.
I do not regret my choice, because I know very well that I squeezed every last drop of lemon. My career is definitely over. Knee problems have made the last few years very difficult, I can’t deny it. If someone had told me three or four years ago that I would have to have three knee surgeries, I would have pulled my hair out!”
