The LPGA Tour kicks off the 2023 season with the Hilton Grand Tournament of Champions, scheduled for January 19-22 at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Florida.

It will be an opportunity to see if Nelly Korda will continue with the same momentum with which she finished 2022, and it will also be an interesting check of Jin Young Ko’s form after the serious wrist injury.
However, some big names will be missing. The most evident absence is that of Lydia Ko: the n. 1 world championship, despite having his home right on Lake Nona, is still on his honeymoon after the wedding celebrated on December 30, 2022.
His 2023 season will in all likelihood begin in mid-February: the New Zealander has in fact confirmed his presence at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International. In addition to Lydia Ko, other players who shone in the 2022 season will be absent: the Australian Minjee Lee, the South Koreans In Gee Chun and Hyo Joo Kim, and the Thai Atthaya Thitikul.
Finally, the American Lexi Thompson will not be there either because, having not won in the LPGA since 2019, she did not qualify. The Hilton Grand Tournament of Champions is the only date on the LPGA Tour in January, then another month off will follow before scheduled events in Thailand, Singapore and China.
This has certainly discouraged the participation of many Asian and Australian players: the journey is long to play just one tournament. Plus the prize pool is “just” $1.5 million, the smallest on the entire LPGA Tour. For comparison, Jon Rahm’s check cashed at the Sentry Tournament of Champions was $2.7 million, $1.2 million more than the entire prize pool at the women’s tournament.
The Rules of Golf are a set of standard rules and procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and maintained by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body for golf worldwide, outside of the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association.
An expert commission made up of members of the R&A and USGA, oversees and refines the rules every four years. The latest revision has been in force since January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve understanding and those that in certain cases reduce penalties to ensure balance.
The rule book, entitled “Rules of Golf”, is published on a regular basis and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy it is up to Federgolf to supervise the competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and manages the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
