There are many players who dream of reaching the Top Ten and being part of the world tennis elite. Becoming one of the top ten players on the main circuit means squeezing high-level tennis for a good part of the season and reaping a series of important results in the most prestigious tournaments on the Tour.
Looking at the dynamics of the game from another perspective, beating one of the top ten players is as difficult as it is complex. For this reason, it is very interesting to analyze the special classification of the tennis players with the highest percentage of victories against the Top 20 in 2022.
The first place is surprisingly occupied by Borna Coric. The Croatian has managed to bounce back from numerous injuries and will compete for the Comeback Player of the Year award with Stan Wawrinka, Dominic Thiem and Yibing Wu.
Coric won four of his five matches against top ten tennis players, (80%) three of them in Cincinnati. Precisely at the Western & Southern Open, the man from Zagreb achieved unexpected success and won the first Masters 1000 of his career.
Novak Djokovic, for his part, occupies the second step of the podium with 78.6%. The Serbian champion failed to participate in two of the four Slams and missed the entire US 1000. This has not stopped him from amassing an 11-3 record.
The Belgradense is the only one who has reached two figures. The undefeated win at the ATP Finals was crucial. Rafael Nadal stopped at 72.7 percent and took eight of eleven wins against Top 10 players. The Mallorcan’s season was characterized by ups and downs and a striking number of injuries.
In fourth place, tied at 66.7%, are Stan Wawrinka and Ugo Humbert. Both have faced one of the ten best tennis players on the circuit three times and have won two times.
Kim Clijsters on Nole Djokovic
Kim Clijsters believes Novak Djokovic will be a force to reckon with at the 2023 Australian Open.
“I heard that he’s (Novak Djokovic) able to play this year, in 2023 he’s going to be able to go, and I’m sure he’s going to be more motivated than ever to try and do well there again,” Kim Clijsters recently said on The Craig Shapiro Tennis Podcast.
“Amazing. The way that he’s able to leave a lot of the negative, the way that he’s able to put that behind him and kind of use it all in a force on the court to play better and be even more focused, I absolutely admire it,” Clijsters expressed.
“I wasn’t in Australia when that whole thing was going on, but I can imagine it’s really tough to go through, not just for him but for the team and everyone involved. It’s a crazy situation,” she added.
