Tiger Woods’ program for his return to competition this week at the Riviera Country Club is now known. The Tiger, who brought forward their press conference to Tuesday, also took a detour through the course of the next US Open.
Tiger Woods, Us Open
If last year Tiger Woods had not included in his very limited tournament calendar, a participation in the US Open at the Country Club of Brookline, preferring to preserve himself in anticipation of the 150th The Open in St Andrews, it will certainly not be not the case next June.
The Tiger indeed seems determined to try to add a 4th victory in the American Open to its record after its successes in 2000 (Pebble Beach), 2002 (Bethpage) and 2008 (Torrey Pines). On Monday, he was spotted on the Los Angeles Country Club’s North Course with one of the club’s members.
A course book was given to him and he undertook a “reconnaissance” in a cart (but without his bag) according to our Golfweek colleague Adam Schupak present on site. Woods had, however, taken care to bring his putter and a few balls to test the greens.
Several other players have had the same idea since the Riviera Country Club, which is hosting the Genesis Invitational this week, the 3rd “boosted” tournament of the PGA Tour season, and the Los Angeles Country Club, site of the 123rd US Open from 15 to 18 next June, are only separated by 11 kilometres.
Defending champion Matthew Fitzpatrick notably had an appointment for a photo shoot organized by the USGA. In addition to this visit to the LA Country Club, Woods has planned to answer questions from journalists present in the press room at the Riviera this Tuesday at 6 p.m.
(French time). He should first make 9 holes and then fulfill his obligations as a tournament host. On Wednesday, the Tiger will take part in the Pro-Am which will serve as its final preparation before the start of the competition on Thursday. Note that the departure times should be announced on Tuesday.
