There will be no Tiger Woods at The Players Championship, the richest tournament on the 2023 PGA Tour, with a total prize pool of $25 million, scheduled for March 9-12 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. After returning to the field at the Genesis Invitational, the Californian has chosen to skip The Players to better prepare for The Masters, the first men’s Major of the year which will return from 6 to 9 April in the USA, in Augusta, Georgia.

On February 23, 2021, Woods had a serious accident in Rancho Palos Verdes while riding a Genesis GV80 of the sponsor whose Pga Tournament in Los Angeles he hosted over the weekend (Genesis Invitational 2021) on a known accident-prone section of the Hawthorne Boulevard lost control of his car and rolled over several times, knocking down a tree about 20 cm thick and being thrown over the two oncoming lanes. He had to be rescued from his car by rescue workers and suffered several open fractures from debris.
