
Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz stepped up big time for Poland in the deciding match of their Brisbane City Final against Italy. Going into the mixed doubles match, Poland and Italy were tied to two wins apiece. In the deciding mixed doubles match, Swiatek and Hurkacz destroyed Camilla Rosatello and Lorenzo Musetti 6-1 6-2.
Following their Brisbane City Final win over, Italy has sealed a semifinal spot at the United Cup. Now, the Polish team will head to Sydney for the semifinal stage.
How Swiatek, Hurkacz defeated Rosatello, Musetti
Rosatello and Musetti actually made a good start to the match, routinely serving out the first game of the match to take a 1-0 lead.
That was their first and lone game won of the first set as Swiatek and Hurkacz then claimed three breaks in a row and won six games in a row to win the opener in style. After losing the last six games of the first set, Rosatello and Musetti stabilized a bit at the start of the second set as they held on to their first two service game.
Through the first five games of the second set, there wasn’t a single break point as Swiatek and Hurkacz led 3-2. Then, Swiatek and Hurkacz earned back-to-back breaks in the sixth and eighth games to complete a dominant straight-set win.
Earlier in the tie, Swiatek defeated Martina Trevisan while Hubert Hurkacz lost to Matteo Berrettini. In the other two matches, Poland’s Magda Linette defeated Lucia Bronzetti while Musetti defeated Daniel Michalski. Swiatek, ranked at No 1, has been absolutely phenomenal for Poland so far at the tournament.
Swiatek is now 3-0 in singles at the United Cup, having previously defeated Yulia Putintseva and Belinda Bencic. Also, Swiatek is now 2-0 in mixed doubles played with Hurkacz. As expected, Swiatek is delivering for Poland.
Poland is now two wins away from winning the inaugural United Cup and Swiatek will probably keep delivering. Going into the Australian Open, Swiatek’s confidence levels are certainly benefiting from her performances at the United Cup.
