The Commodores opened their home games Saturday with a win over TSU’s Tigers and a loss to Princeton. Next week, Vanderbilt continues to play at home on February 12, hosting Rice at noon. As reported by the Vabderbilt University website, Macsen Sisam and Joubert Klopper grabbing the 6-4 victory on court 3 and Michael Ross and Nathan Cox having the better of court 2, giving the Commodores a 1-0 lead in singular.
Princeton tied it up, with Klopper dropping straight sets on field 1. The Dores picked up a single run with Ross’ 6-3, 6-4 wins on field 3. Jeremie Casabon and Siim Troost both forced the third set in their respective matches, but they ultimately fell short with Troost losing 4-6 and Casabon 2-6.
The second game of the day began with the Dores picking up the doubles point again, with Troost/Paul Wang and Sisam/Klopper both winning their matches. Vanderbilt’s momentum never wavered and the Commodores finished the match with Troost, Marcus Ferreira and Cox each taking straight sets.
Ross and Klopper also took back-to-back sets, picking up two more points. The Commodores beat the Tigers 6-0. Ian Duvenhage, Dores head coach, explained: “We had another strong start by winning four of six first sets in singles against Princeton, but we’re not finishing up.
We need to capitalize on our starts and shut down our opponents.”
