
The Vanderbilt University women’s tennis team defeated Kentucky 5-2 on Saturday. The Dores will finish the regular season at home when they face No. 52 LSU and TSU on Friday and celebrate senior day against No. 2 Texas A&M on Sunday.
Even with a last-minute switch to playing indoors due to inclement weather, the Dores were ready. No. 73 Celia-Belle Mohr and Marcella Cruz capitalized early with a 6-2 victory on court 2. Bridget Stammel and Anessa Lee grabbed the doubles point for the Dores on court 3 to give Vandy the lead going into singles.
In the singles, the Dores’ momentum continued. No. 35 Mohr defeated No. 32 Florencia Urrutia in straight sets to extend her streak to six. On court 4, Lee won in straight sets to extend her hitting streak to five and put the Dores within one point of winning the match.
Shortly thereafter, Stammel reclaimed the winning point for Vandy with her victory in straight sets on court 3. The remaining singles matches were played and Vandy was able to pick up an additional point from Holly Staff.
