Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams will be playing against Danielle Collins in a Dallas exhibition on 4 February. Between 07-13 February, Dallas will be hosting a men’s ATP 250 tournament. But for the 2023 edition, the tournament organizers also decided to host a women’s exhibition match.
The match will certainly draw lots of attention and interest since Williams is an all-time great, while Collins made the Australian Open final earlier this year. “We are thrilled to announce that Venus Williams will join us in our inaugural showcase of women’s tennis at the 2023 ATP Dallas Open, playing in the Women’s Tennis Classic.
In addition to some of the best names in the sport expected to compete in the ATP Dallas Open, having a legend like Venus join us just adds to a fantastic week of tennis,” tournament director Peter Lebedevs said.
Williams hinted she plans to play again in 2023
In early August, Williams played her first singles tournament in 12 months.
In the end, Williams ended up competing in four tournaments during the North American hard court swing. In a recent video uploaded on her YouTube channel, Williams indicated she would play again in 2023. “A lot of people have been asking me, ‘are you gonna play again?’ I love tennis and I would like to play again and I will let you know exactly when.
I’ve been honestly hitting the court a lot and let me tell you when I hit the court, right after the doubles match that we played at the US Open. I immediately booked the court the next day and I went to every single practice in New York.
I hit indoors and I’ve been hitting ever since,” Williams said in a video uploaded on her YouTube channel. It remains to be seen what Williams exactly plans for 2023.
