
Victor Castro of the Monmouth University men’s tennis was named CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. In doubles, Castro and teammate Gabriel Busato improved to 7-0 as a duo this season with three victories at the No. 2 slot.
Monmouth is back at home on Wednesday afternoon when it hosts St. John’s at 2 p.m. Playing at No. 3 singles, the graduate student defeated Bryant’s Nick Lorenz, 6-0, 6-3, and Hofstra’s Josh Reynolds, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
He moved up to the No. 1 position against Wagner and topped Rodrigo Perez, 6-2, 6-2. Castro’s personal singles winning streak stands at six matches and he is 11-4 in singles play this year. Castro went unbeaten this past week with a 3-0 record in singles and doubles as Monmouth extended its winning streak to eight with victories over Bryant (5-2), Wagner (7-0) and Hofstra (4-1).
