As repoirted bu the University of Virginia website, UVA men’s tennis team was defeated 4-1 by Ohio State, ranked no.1. Cavaliers will travel to Chicago next week to compete in the 2023 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, held February 17-20 at XS Tennis Village.
Andres Pedroso, head coach of the Virginia men’s team, explained: “Congratulations to the Ohio State Buckeyes. They showed today why they have been one of the most consistent programs in college tennis for years. If I know one thing about our team, it’s that they will respond and today we will get one step closer to where we want to be.
We always think long term and will hit our stride. Thanks to all the amazing fans who came out to support us today. The atmosphere today at the Boar’s Head was incredible. We are so grateful to be fighting in front of our Wahoo fans.” Virginia opened the game with a 6-4 win by Chris Rodesch and Bar Botzer on superior doubles court.
Iñaki Montes and Ryan Goetz won tied points to recover a break to take a 6-5 lead on the double two court, holding serve to secure the point for the Cavaliers in a 7-5 win. Virginia won the doubles point, but Ohio State won four singles games to earn the win.
